Ash will be one week old tomorrow! It still feels like we just got home from the hospital yesterday. Things are GREAT so far. He is a very calm little guy, and when he gets upset, mamma's boobie comes to the rescue! Gillian has been incredible so far, and despite being in a lot of pain she is taking great care of Ash.
We have taken hundred of photos of him so far and he has experienced a couple of firsts today, including his first encounter with a dog, and his first bath!
In other news, sometimes he sleeps with one eye open.
Baby Ashden Hyde Mathias was born September 9th at 10:41am after 36 hours of labour. Ash weighed in at 7lb 13oz, and measured 20 inches long. Mamma and baby are doing great!
I've been out fishing a few times this week at the local river, but water levels are so low that it been tough finding fish. Gillian and I did well last week though, catching two good sized carp.
In other news Jon put together this awesome video from our trip up north ealier this year. Check it out!
My string of recent injuries continues once again. This time a severely sprained ankle do to my soccer skills (or lack there of). I was hurt during the first 25 minutes of the game, but stuck around as goalie after I was able to stand up again.
We spent a good three hours waiting at a walk in clinic to spend approximately 47 seconds with a doctor who simply repeated everything I said to him. Sadly, I dont think I will be playing soccer this week since I must resort to crawling or hopping around on one foot to get around. Luckily I have a wonderful woman taking care of me. Occasionally she bumps into my foot and apologizes, but part of me thinks she does it on purpose.
In other news, I have upgraded to the latest version of Ubuntu and it is great.
After a four year hiatus from playing hockey, I was invited out to play goal for our company team. We had a practice a week ago that left me with a couple small bruises. My first twenty minutes on the ice were the hardest. I learned quickly that I am brutally out of shape and had to battle just to breathe. Eventually I passed the lack of oxygen stage, and moved on the the puke in your mouth stage. Luckily that didn't last too long and I moved into the dehydration, throbbing head pain stage.
Apparently the boys (and girl) where pleased with my play and asked to play in an actual game. I gladly excepted. We Played saturday night for the Inter-departmental Cup and managed to pull off a 10-6 victory. I absolutely loved playing competitive sports again despite the toll it took on my body.
I have a bit of a limp, but I feel like a million bucks.
